11th Annual Hill Country Youth Commercial Heifer Sale

The Hill Country Youth Commercial heifer Sale provides youth in the Texas Hill Country with the opportunity to raise and sell commercial heifers.  Money from the heifer sale goes back to project participants.  Scholarships are also made available to participants.
If you can't attend the sale, you can donate to the scholarship fund or buy a raffle ticket.  Each raffle ticket enters you in a drawing for one of three chances to win.  Three winners will each receive a group of five Angus plus heifers.

Whitman & Hudson Leverett - Llano
8 Red Angus heifers raised on Stillwaters Ranch in Llano, TX. All of the heifers were bred to a low birth weight Angus bull raised by Haverlah Ranches. The heifers were synced up and put in with the bull in late January of this year. The heifers will be two years old when they have their first calves. They're gentle, friendly, and come to a siren or horn. They will be the front pasture kind. (1)

Sterling Andrews- Llano
5 Registered Hereford Heifers off the TT Ranch.  These fancy registered Hereford heifers are broke to the feed truck with good bone and iconic Hereford style.  Exposed to our registered Black Angus bull since mid April.  The bull has earned his stay at our ranch with low birth weight calves and birthing ease we've appreciated year after year, paired with his docile nature.  Here is your chance for a set of quality black baldie calves and hybrid vigor to go any direction you choose.  (2)

10 Commercial Angus heifers long bred to a low birth weight Angus bull owned by Hank Kimbriel.  These heifers were exposed to the bull mid April.  They are stout, come to cake, and will be an amazing addition to any herd. (3)

4 Brangus and one Brangus baldie heifer long bred to a proven Wagyu cross heifer bull. These heifers are big solid framed girls. They are set to calve at the end of November of 2024. Bull was turned in 2/13/2024.  (4)

6 Commercial Red Angus heifers that were sired by Red Angus bulls and Red Angus Cows. The heifers will be 18 months of age in October and have been exposed to a Corriente bull for 120 days. Heifers calving date will be February - June. They are cake broke and very gentle to handle.  (5)

Reagan & Reese Rode – Llano
10 Angus/Brangus Cross Heifers that were born from Roland Rode's commercial herd of Angus/Brangus cross cows in Llano, TX, and sired by an Ultrablack Bull from Town Creek Farm in West Point, MS.  The heifers were synchronized and exposed to low birth weight Red SimAngus bulls from Bar B Simmentals in Muenster, Texas.  They will be approximately 2 years old in February of 2024 when they start calving. These heifers are ready to step in and improve your herd.  (6)

Layna Ottmers – Fredericksburg
4 Commercial Red Beefmaster Heifers raised on the Bill Botard ranch in Alice Texas and exposed to a low birth weight Beefmaster bull February 1st. They have been cleaned up by a low birth weight Angus bull and should calve in mid November. These fancy heifers would be a great addition to any herd.  (7)

Emma Faye Osbourn – Llano
5 Fancy Super Black Baldie Heifers bred to a low birth weight registered Black Angus bull from Smarr Angus Ranch. The bull was turned in the first part of March. These are big framed and stout heifers that can raise calves that will top the market. They are calm, good-natured heifers and are easy to handle. They come when called and will follow you anywhere.  (8)

Bryli Edmondson - San Saba
5 Red Angus bred heifers that were born in South Dakota and have been here in Texas since early Spring. All the heifers are bred to a solid Black Corriente bull which was turned in on April 4, 2024. They should calve in December 2024 or January 2025 as 2 year olds. They are front pasture kind of cattle. (9)

5 Red Angus heifers that were sired by a stout and complete Red Angus bull from Jennings Ventures Cattle Company and born to high quality Red Angus cows from the RA Brown Ranch.  All five heifers are bred, by artificial insemination on April 27, 2024, to Brown JYJ Redemption Y1334 (“Redemption”).  Redemption is a $140,000, proven calving-ease bull, and remains one of the Red Angus breed’s “go-to” bulls for heifer breeding projects.  He spent four years at the top of the Red Angus leaderboard for number of calves registered, and has an outstanding legacy of balanced EPD’s, highly functional daughters.  The heifers should calve around February 1, 2025.  (10)

5 Angus heifers that are one raising & coming 2 years old.  They were exposed March 19th to April 19th to a pair of proven low birth weight 44 Farms Angus bulls & should calve late December to late January. EPD’s on both bulls are +15 Calving Ease, with excellent growth and carcass EPD’s. Gentle and broke to feed pickup and current on all vaccines and Dectomax.  (15)

5 ¾ Black Angus, ¼ Simmental heifers born January/February 2023 on Dr. Daniel J. Fritz, DVM Ranch in Fredericksburg, Texas. Heifers were bred to a young Red Angus bull and received a positive pregnancy test in September 2024. They have been immunized against BVD, IBR, PI3, Leptospirosis 5 Way, Blackleg 7, and Vibriosis and dewormed with Cydectin. They grazed on native little bluestem and fertilized coastal Bermuda pasture. The heifers’ diet was supplemented with 30% protein/13% fat tubs and Wind & Rain mineral with IGR. They are good natured and come to cubes. You would be very proud to own these gentle, home raised heifers.  (16)

4 Commercial Brahman heifers purchased from Mickey Exler in Lexington, Texas. Since acquisition in April of 2024, heifers have been pastured raised with Klein grass on Rhett’s grandfather’s ranch. In addition, they have been supplemented with 20 percent cubes daily. They have been hand fed, and as a result, are extremely gentle. Heifers have been exposed to a commercial grade horned Hereford bull for sixty days (July 1 - Sept 1) for spring 2025 calving.   (23)

Jase & Rhett Miller - Llano
6 Angus heifers bred by Haverlah Ranch. Three of these heifers are registered, the other three are out of registered stock, but not registered themselves. Heifers were exposed for 90 days March-May 2024 to a registered Angus bull from Haverlah Ranch/Bradley 3 Ranch. He ranks top 30% calving ease, top 35% low birth weights, top 25% carcass weights and top 10% in marbling. These heifers are moderate framed, gentle and have been selected for maternal genetics to improve a herd.  (24)

11 Black baldie heifers bred to a proven low birth weight bull (3/4 Black Simmental 1/4 Angus from Shady Oaks Farms, Clark Behrends, Fredericksburg, TX). These 11 head were part of an original group of 20 heifers exposed to this bull for 65 days and subsequently pregnancy checked at 3-4 months, resulting in a 95% conception rate. Heifers were born in September and early October 2022 and are due to calve December 1, 2024 – February 5, 2025 at 2+ years of age. As we sorted through several heifers, we observed this particular pen to be extremely gentle. 5 Black baldie heifers purchased from my grandad, David Hopson, on April 20, 2024. They are out of Angus cross black white face cows and sired by registered Angus bulls. We AI bred these top quality heifers to 44 Farms Angus Bull Hayday 008, on February 8, 2024. Hayday is a double-digit calving ease (CED +14), with a high marbling EPD of +1.67 (top 1% in the breed). The heifers were then turned out with other low birth weight, high marbling bulls from 44 Farms and Wilks Angus Ranch, for cleanup. These long bred heifers were palpated on May 21, 2024, and are expected to calve early to mid-December.
