Frequently Asked Questions
Our regular weekly sales are:
- Monday in Mason - 325-347-6361
- Thursday in San Saba - 325-372-5159
Special Replacement Female Sales are held in San Saba on Saturdays. There will be a few Special Female Consignments sold on a Thursday in conjunction with the regular sale.
We are closed for some holidays. Please check the full sale calendar by clicking here.
When you arrive at the sale, please unload the cattle at the Check-In house (the drive thru). You will be asked who the check should be made out to and mailing address. The cattle will be counted and you will receive a copy of the unload sheet for your records.
Checks will be available on sale day, usually within an hour after the cattle are sold in the sale ring or mailed out the next business day.
When you arrive at the sale, please come to the counter to register to bid. We will ask for a copy of your driver's license and a check.
To save time on-site, you may also complete the Buyer's Registration online by clicking here. If you prefer to download and bring in a printed copy, please click here to download the Buyer Registration Form.
Some buyers will provide a Letter of Credit or Letter of Reference from your bank. If you plan to buy a significant volume of cattle, this letter may be required.
If you have questions about first time buying online please go to the Frequently Asked Questions on How do I Register to Bid Online.
No, you will not need a bidder/buyer number. We use names so simply give your name to the auctioneer when the cattle are sold and you are the high bidder. Online sale uses names also.
(There is one special bull sale that buyer numbers are used.)
You will need to register with CattleUSA and then request bid approval for Jordan Cattle Auction. For instructions on how to Register to View or Register to Bid, please click here.

We recommend registering to bid at least two days prior to the sale you want to buy from. Once you are approved to bid online, you do not need to register again for future sales.
For regular weekly sales, the normal sale order is: packer cows, bulls, bred cows, pairs, calves and yearlings.
For special replacement female and bull sales, the sale order is determined the day prior to the sale and posted online.
For Special Replacement Female Sales, Bull Sales, and Premium Weaned Calf Sales, cattle must be consigned prior to the sale. Please contact the office at 325-372-5159 to consign your cattle.
For Stocker & Feeder Sales you are not required to consign the calves but it is helpful to let the office know so that we can advertise them. (We need information such as if and how long they have been weaned and what vaccinations they have been given.)
For regular weekly sales, simply drop off the cattle. There is no need to consign prior to the sale.
Checks for sellers may be picked up on sale day. If they are not picked up on sale day then they are mailed via First Class mail the following business day.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has said to allow 10 - 14 days for delivery of First Class mail. If your check has not arrived 14 days after the sale, please contact the office and we can reissue a check.
For your protection, our bank matches the payee name with the endorsement. You must endorse the check properly to receive payment.
If the payee of a check we have written fails to endorse a deposited check, that check may be returned. By returning an unendorsed check, the bank is protecting you against the negotiation of a stolen check.
To prevent check fraud, checks should be endorsed on the back of the check to be valid for deposit. The check endorsement should match the payee on the front of the check. Adding a statement that reads “For Deposit Only in Account Number ______ at ______ Bank” under your signature ensures that the check cannot be cashed or deposited in another account.
For checks that are made out to multiple parties, adding a statement that reads “Pay to the order of ________” under your own signature transfers the ownership of that check to the other party. To negotiate that check, the other party would also have to endorse the check underneath your signature in order to receive the value of the check. If a check has multiple payees and the word “or” does not appear, all payees must endorse the check. As an example, a check made payable to you and your bank must be endorsed by both.
The left shoulder is where we mark ages for replacement females. Here is what the symbols mean:
Horizontal Line (--)= Heifer
Letter T (T) = Two-year old
Vertical Line (|) = Three to Five-year old
Letter X (X) = Solid Mouth Missing One Tooth
No marks on the left shoulder indicate the cow is solid-mouthed, over five years old.
The left hip is where we mark months bred for replacement females. Our veterinarian checks cows and heifers on-site to determine if the animal is pregnant and, if pregnant, how long the animal has been pregnant.
We use the number 1 - 8 to designate months pregnant.
The head is where we mark the condition of the animal's mouth. Our staff checks cows and heifers on-site to determine if there are any issues with the animal's mouth which may impact its ability to eat normally.
No Marks on the Head or Left Shoulder = Solid Mouth
"-" Line Across the Nose = Short Solid (have all their teeth but they are short)
"-" Line Between the Eyes = Weak Mouth (have all teeth but roots are showing)
"T" on the Head = Broke Mouth (few teeth)
"|" Line Down the Head = Broke Mouth (no teeth)
